Fossa Seniors:
Fossa are at home to Glenflesk on
Friday evening next August 27th in the
opening round of the East Kerry Championship. Throw in
is at 6.45p.m. and all support would be greatly
appreciated.
Fossa Juniors:
The junior team were in action
twice in three days last weekend and on both occasions
went down by the minimum. On Friday night, they played
host to Tarbert in the quarter final of the Cahill cup.
In a close encounter Fossa were just pipped on a final
scoreline of 0-12 to 1-8. On Sunday they travelled to
Scartaglin in the first round of the O’ Sullivan Cup but
alas they were once again to go down by a single point
on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-10. Although no silverware
was lifted by the Juniors this year it has been quite
successful and with a bit of luck one or two results
could have gone the other way. Well done to the mentors
James Houlihan, Seamus Falvey and Willie Buckley who put
in great effort throughout the year. Let’s hope we can
bring it on to next year.
Fossa/Listry Minors:
Fossa-Listry completed the league
phase of the East Kerry Division 2 league unbeaten when
the defeated Scart-Cordal in Scartaglin on Thursday
night last on a final scoreline of 4-12 to 2-7. This
ensures passage to the final which has yet to be fixed
due to other outstanding fixtures. Although not a
vintage display from the lads, they did what had to be
done with the goals coming from Patrick Sheehan, Brenden
Falvey, Kevin Courtney and Sean Lehane.
Fossa U16 Co. Final
Fossa 4-19 St Pats 3-7
Played in Keel on Wednesday evening
last, the Fossa U16 side claimed the county league title
for the second year in a row when they produced a
fabulous display to overcome a gallant St. Pats side.
Although the final scoreline suggests differently this
was a hard fought and high quality encounter between two
fine sides. Fossa started in whirlwind fashion with Dara
Rice opening the scoring with a well taken point before
Daid Osterloh galloped through the centre to blast to
the net. Tadhg O’ Shea added a pointed free before the
excellent Pats centre forward Brenden Savage opened
their account. Fossa then hit two goals in a minute when
firstly Brenden Curran was at the end of a defensive mix
up to calmly finish and from the resultant kick out
Tadhg O’ Shea was at the end of a fine move and made no
mistake from close range. Pats replied with a point but
only after a fine save from Daniel O’ Connel denied them
a goal but the O’ Shea brothers were to hit a purple
patch and hit the next six points between them. Fossa
now led 3-8 to 0-2 and all seemed lost for Pats.
However, they began gaining more possession around the
middle of the field and hit and unanswered 1-3 before
the break. Half Time: Fossa 3-8 St. Pats 1-5. St Pats again made the early running in the
second half where they struck 1-2 in the opening ten
minutes to leave just 4 points between the sides. Fossa
responded by swithing the O’ Shea brothers and it had
the desired effect with Fossa starting to gain more ball
around the middle. Daniel O’ Keeffe made a great run
before being fouled with Tadhg O’ Shea slotting the
resultant free. Tadhg added the next three from play
before Mikey O’ Shea had the white flag raised again
after playing a smart 1-2 with Brenden Curran. St. Pats
rallied once more but another magnificent save by O’
Connell kept them at bay. Tadhg Shea registered another
minor before Daniel O’ Keeffe hit two superb scores in
as many minutes. Eoin O Carroll hit a goal for Pats but
Fossa finished superbly with a further 1-3, Mikey O’
Shea with 1-1, the goal coming from a quick free, Tadhg
Shea adding another and finally a sublime effort from
the left leg of Paudie Clifford. Fianl Score: Fossa 4-19 St. Pats 3-7. This was a wonderful display by the Fossa
lads and great credit must go to their mentors James O’
Shea and John McKenna for the wonderful work they put in
throughout the year. Both were unable to hide their
delight at the final whistle. Thanks too to the numerous
supporters who travelled to Keel on the night. As for
the team, Daniel O’ Connell was flawless in goal making
some fine saves with the full back line of Diarmuid
Burke, captain Dan Griffin and the excellent Johnny
Coffey superb throughout. Shane Hennigan was strong at
centre back and on either wing Daniel O’ Keeffe and Colm
Walsh gave exemplary displays. At midfield both Davis
Osterloh and Mikey O’ Shea won an amount of ball and
contributed an impressive 2-3 to the scoresheet. The
half forward line of Padraig Devane, Dara Rice and
Paudie Clifford were also fantastic both at picking up
breaks and chipping in with vital scores. Inside Brenden
Curran and Gearoid O’ Sullivan were great partners in
crime to the devastating Tadhg O’ Shea. It was an
amazing exhibition of score taking by the eldest of the
O’ Shea brothers and one of the finest displays this
writer has seen in a long time. Morris Prendiville and
Alan Buckley didn’t put a foot wrong when introduced.
Well done again to all involved.
