County Minor League Division 4 Table
2011 County Minor League Division 4
County Minor League Div 4 Final (01/05/2011)
Fossa 2-10 Knocknagoshel/Brosna 1-11
Contrasting emotions at the final
whistle of this epic Keane's Supervalu County
Minor League Division 4 final played in
Farranfore on Sunday afternoon, as the Fossa
players were in seventh heaven after snatching a
winner deep in injury time while the Knock/Brosna
lads were gutted at the turn of events but that
is sport- the only certainty about it - is its
uncertainty and that's why in a few days, the
losers and winners will have moved on, with
another goal in mind and the emotions of Sunday
will have dissipated.
It was game that was in the balance right to the
end and it was a game with a twist to it tail as
Fossa with substitute Paudie Clifford making a
huge impact making a Lazarus like comeback on
the Sunday after Easter Sunday.
Knock/Brosna who are a very young side (all but
four of the starting fifteen will be underage
again next year) made an explosive start with
midfielder Michael Finnegan bursting through for
a goal in the first minute.
Fossa pulled it back with points from Brian
Walsh and Michael Quirke. Adam Barry landed a
point and Mike Finnegan stretched Knock/Brosna's
lead with another fine point.
It was frantic action at both ends with Conor
Kiely denying David Osterloh a certain goal
while at the other end Knock/Brosna had a goal
disallowed, when Gary Downey was deemed to be
too close to goal.
A great goal by Brian Walsh for Fossa levelled
matters and it was point for point, with the
sides deadlocked at 1-4 each at half-time.
Tadgh O'Shea, who was very dangerous for Fossa
in the second half, hit a good free that was
quickly cancelled by Adam Barry. Fossa edged two
clear through Michael Quirke and Darragh Rice,
only to be reeled in by scores from Gerard Nash
and Adam Barry.
Eamon
Prendiville put Knock/Brosna
in front and, after
Fossa was denied goal
chances, thanks to some
great defending by
Knock/Brosna, it was
Shane Murphy and Mike
Finnegan who pushed the
losers ahead by three. .
An Adam Barry point
looked to have sealed
the final for the Knock/Brosna
boys but , but Fossa
refused to give in and
just like Legion in the
Div 2 final, they
snatched victory from
the jaws of
defeat.Paudie Sheehan
scored a thunderous goal
and super-sub Paudie
Clifford pointed after
Brian Walsh had struck
the post. Tadgh O'Shea
then fired Fossa in
front and the saviour
Paudie Clifford made it
1-3 without reply in
three and a half minutes
to ensure that the title
was heading towards
Golden Nugget country! A
cruel way for Knock/Brosna
to lose it but they will
be back while Fossa can
celebrate and it's just
is testament to a club
that has some of the
finest facilities in the
county.
Weeshie Fogarty (Radio
Kerry legend) presented
the Man of the Match
Award to Michael
Finnegan (Knock/Brosna),
while Ger Galvin
Development Officer of
the Co Board presented
the winning trophy to
Fossa Joint Captains
Paddy Sheehan & Brian
Walsh.
A real thriller that was
savoured by those
fortunate to have been
there and well done to
both teams and to their
mentors, for such
entertainment for just a
fiver!!

County Champions
Semi Final (10/04/2011)
Fossa 3-14 St Pats Blennerville 1-7
Having topped the
league phase in division 4 of the county league, Fossa were at
home to St. Pats of Blennerville in the semi-final of the
competition on Friday evening last. Fossa got off to a
blistering start and within a minute Tadhg Shea was denied a
goal when Anthony Loucher in the Pats goal pulled off a
marvellous save. Brian Walsh latched on the resulting break and
coolly slotted over. Tadhg made amends three minutes later when
he was at the end of a great run and lovely lay off by David
Osterloh, to blast home. Pats came storming back and on 6
minutes were awarded a penalty. However, a wonderful double
save by Dan Cronin was to keep them at bay. Pats continued to
press and hit two points without reply before Fossa stormed back
to hit the next 4 to see them lead 1-5 to 0-2 after 20minutes.
A pointed free and another from play from Pats cut the gap to 4
points but Fossa hit a purple patch tagging on 1-5 in 6 minutes
to surge into a comfortable lead at the break. The goal came
from Brian Walsh after some wonderful work by Mike Quirke and
Dara Rice. H/T Fossa 2-9 Pats 0-5. The third quarter, unlike the
opening half was a low scoring affair with some fine defending
by both sides. Two Fossa points from Brian Walsh and Tadhg Shea
with Brenden Savage replying with a pointed free was the return
in the first 20 minutes of the half. Fossa were lead superbly at
the back with David McCarthy and Paddy Sheehan very strong
throughout. Two men who also must get a mention are Mikey Shea
and Daniel Keeffe who were both outstanding and hardly put a
foot wrong throughout. Brian Walsh added to his tally after 21
minutes with another point from play and a minute later after a
mix up in the Pats, Tadhg Shea was on hand to tap in to the net
and virtually seal the contest. St Pats to their eternal credit
never gave in and were rewarded with a goal of their own three
minutes from time. Points from O’ Shea and Walsh rounded off the
scoring to see Fossa through to the final. This was a fine
display by the lads but they will know that they must maintain
this level if they are to go all the way. Well done to the
McKenna brothers, Dan and John and James Cahillane, as well as
all the players and we wish them well in the final which has yet
to be fixed. On an added note, it was great to see David Palmer
return to action after coming back after a long tern injury.
Team: Dan Cronin, Daniel O’ Keeffe, David McCarthy, Alex
McFarlane, Daniel Coffey, Paddy Sheehan, Mikey O Shea, Eanna
Grealy, Shane Hennigan, Fergal O’ Shea, Brian Walsh (1-4), Dara

Osterloh. Daniel Griffin, Daniel O’ Connell, Brendan Curran,

Round 4
Currow/Firies 1-6 Fossa 2-17
The Fossa minor
side had a comfortable 2-17 to 0-6 victory over Currow/Firies in
Currow on Saturday evening last which saw them top their group
and secure a home tie in the semi-finals of the county league.
This was a fine display by the Fossa Minors with Brendan Curran
hitting a brace of goals while Tadhg O’ Shea notched up an
impressive 0-11 over the hour. Well done to the players along
with the mentors who oversaw a fine run through the league phase
of the competition.
Fossa will host St.
Pats Blennerville in the semi-final which is down for decision
on this Friday night April 1st. Throw in at Fossa is
6.30p.m. We would like to wish the lads the best of luck in the
semi-final and would encourage everyone to come along and
support the lads, particularly in Fossa.
Round 3
Fossa 1-8 Milltown Castlemaine 0-12
Fossa hosted Milltown/Castlemaine on Saturday afternoon last in
round 3 of the county minor league. In a close fought and
entertaining encounter, the visitors were to prevail by the
minimum on a scoreline of Fossa 1-8 Milltown 0-12.
Round
2
Fossa 6-10 St Pats Blennerville 2-10
After receiving a walkover in their opening fixture, Fossa were
at home to St. Pats on Saturday evening last. In what was an
extremely entertaining game, Fossa well and truly proved the old
adage that goals win games when they struck 6 past the visitors.
Alan Buckley was on hand to fire home the first and was closely
followed by a fine second by Mike Quirke. David Osterloh had the
net bulging soon afterwards after a superb solo effort before
HOT-SHOT Tadhg Shea fired home a fourth before the short
whistle. St. Pat’s, to their eternal credit stayed within
touching distance throughout and but for some fine handling by
Fossa goalkeeper Daniel Cronin, may well have been closer.
However, Fossa hit two more goals in the second period with
Brian Walsh finding the target and Brenden Curran hitting the
net with a smart finish. This was a good all round team
performance and lets hope the boys keep it going. Fossa’s next
fixture is another home tie versus Milltown/Castlemaine on
Saturday March 19th.
Round 1

2010 East
Kerry Minor "B" Championship Final
(09/January/2011)
Fossa-Listry 3-11 Firies 3-6
The Fossa-Listry minor side of 2010 may have had to wait until
January 2011 for silverware but they finally achieved some much
deserved success when they defeated Firies in the East Kerry
Minor “B” Championship final on Sunday afternoon last. After
coming so close in both the County and East Kerry League
competitions last year they finally reaped some reward by
claiming this title in an entertaining and hard fought encounter
over a gallant Firies side. Fossa-Listry raced into an early 0-5
to 0-1 lead after 15 minutes, but Firies responded by posting
the final three points of the opening half to leave just the
minimum between the sides at the break. Fossa-Listry, however,
began the second half in whirlwind fashion with Gavin Nolan
scoring a cracking goal almost direct from the re-start. Three
minutes later Tadhg O’ Shea followed suit when he coolly slotted
home after a fine move and David Osterloh again had the net
bulging 10 minutes in. Fossa-Listry held what now seemed to be
an unassailable lead but great credit must go to the Firies boys
and their never say die spirit as they responded with a couple
of fine goals of their own. Indeed with 10 minutes to go there
was just 4 points between the sides but this was to be as close
as it got with the excellent Brian Walsh and Gar O’ Sullivan
adding fine scores to steady the ship. This was a fine display
by the boys with superb performances displayed throughout the
field. Well done to Seamus Weldon and all the mentors involved
for having the lads in such fine fettle at such a difficult time
of the year. Fossa native and East Kerry Board chairman
presented the trophy to a deserving winning captain Patrick
Sheehan immediately afterwards. Well done to the Listry club
also for having the field in such fine shape and available at
this time of the year.
