County League Round 9 Sat 6th September 2008
Fossa 1-7 Scartaglin 0-6
The battle for the second promotion spot in division 4 reached fever pitch on Saturday evening last when hopefuls Fossa and Scartaglin clashed in Fossa. In a hard-fought and tense game, the hosts finally emerged deserved winners by 4 points. Jimmy Falvey opened the scoring for the home side with but this was soon cancelled out by a free from JJ Murphy. Fossa then took control of the possession stakes and Jimmy Falvey added two more frees before Fintan Coffey added a fine score from play. JJ Murphy raised a second white flag but shortly afterwards Fossa hit the all important goal when after fine work from Michael O Neill, John Falvey superbly beat the keeper with a fine strike. Fossa led 1-4 to 0-2 at the short whistle. Jimmy Falvey added another free for the opening score of the second half. Again, JJ Murphy replied. The older Falvey brother was on hand to finish off a fine move but Scart again replied with two pointed frees. Fossa lived dangerously and can be thankful to a wonderful display by thier six backs and in particular Shane Malone and James Cahillane. Scartaglin rattled the crossbar in the closing minutes and the resultan break finished with Kenneth Clifford scoring a fine point from play to leave 5 points between the sides. Scart did add another score at the death with a point from Damien O' Connor but it was too late. With St Pats well ahead in the division, the battle for the second promotion spot is proving to be unbelievably close with 5 or 6 teams still involved. Fossa's victory may have given them a slight edge at the moment but it is still all to play for.

Cromane 0-07 Fossa 1-11
Fossa got back on the winning trail on sunday with a great team performance in Cromane. Jimmy Falvey had a personnal tally of 1-06 and Mick O'Neill scored 3 class points, the other two points were kicked by Derry Sullivan and Mikey Cronin.
Mikey Cronin gave an awesome display of fielding while the back were marshalled by James Cahillane who gave a power display at centre back and at full back for the second half. Anthoney Wharton who had his first full game with over a year and a half... looked like he never missed a day! It was great to see him mopping up possesion all over the field.
Up front Eoin O'Connell and Kenneth Clifford ran thier socks off and used possesion wisely, feeding Falvey time and time again. In defence Shane Malone played his customary role and was abeley assisted by kevin Sullivan, Lorcan Day and Mark Denehy. In midfield Fintan Coffey played well and Connor O'Keeffe controlled the middle area, putting in some good defense work. All in all a very entertaining game.
Novice Championship 1st Round Sat 31/5/08
Ballydonoughue 0-11 Fossa 0-07
Fossa saved thier most dissapointing performance of the year for this first round championship game... All the old failings came flooding back.. silly turn overs, persistant fouling in key areas and an inability from the forward to make decisive runs all lead to a real sad day an the office.
Fossa were two points down with in minutes and despite clawing back two points, from Donald Sullivan and Jimmy Falvey, Bally went on to record the next four points, and lead they held to the end. The one forward who looked that he could unlock the Bally defence was Donald Sullivan and he scored 5 of the total scored. Fintan Coffey played well at fullback in for the absent Malone and Mikey Cronin caught some good ball in the middle of the field, BUT too many of the big guns just did'nt fire on the night.
County League Round 5 Sat 10th May
Fossa 0-8 St. Pats 0-11
Table toppers St. Pats, undefeated so far in the League, and maintained their 100% record on Saturday evening last, as they emerged victorious over the local boys.
Fossa, lining out without exam-tied Shane Malone and Frank McCarthy, will rue some missed goal chances, but overall, St. Pats deserved their victory as in the final ten minutes they managed to get the vital scores needed for victory.
The opening half was keenly contested. St Pats raced into a two point lead before Domhnall O Sullivan free opened Fossa's account. John Falvey was unfortunate to see his goal bound shot deflected for 45', which his brother Jimmy converted to level the tie. Domhnall O Sullivan finished off an excellent move to put Fossa a point ahead but St. Pats replied promptly, before a Jimmy Falvey free from an acute angle restored Fossa's lead. A pointed free from St. Pats left the sides tied on 4 points each half time.
The second half started very promisingly for Fossa as Domhnall O Sullivan & Jimmy Falvey pointed before another goal miss denied Fossa the commanding lead they required although L Daly did score a good point to put Fossa 0-7 to 0-4 ahead.
However this was Fossa's last score for quite some time. St. Pats proceeded to dominate, particularly at midfield, and shot six unanswered points as having a penalty kick well saved by Fossa's custodian Colin Myers. A Jimmy Falvey point narrowed the gap to 0-10 to 0-8 but St Pats had the final score with a point to stretch their lead to 0-11 to 0-8.
In the dying moments a centre from Jimmy Falvey was met by Fintan Coffey but his goal-bound flick was well saved by the St. Pats keeper.
Seniors: Cordal 0-11 Fossa 1-10 County League Rd 3 - back game 26/4/08
In a round 3 back game played on Sat evening last in Cordal, Fossa recoreded a hard fought but deserved win over the home side by 1-10 to 0-11.
Fossa lined out minus Jimmy Falvey due to commitments with Kerry u-21 side as well as Frank McCarthy, but on the night, Fossa made light of their loss in turning in an impressive display which featured some fine passages of play. Fossa dominated the opening 10 mins but yet had only 0-2 to show for their efforts-a wonderful Mick O Neill point and a pointed free from D O Sullivan. Fossa's goal came after D O Sullivan was fouled and Kenneth Clifford struck the penalty expertly into the net. Further points from Clifford and a point from D O Sullivan saw Fossa lead by 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval. Eamonn John O Donoghue fielded some great high ball at mid-field for Cordal and Tom O Connor showed accuracy from frees, but the Fossa defence was resolute with K O Sullivan, M Dennehy and J Cahillane being particularly prominent. Cordal mounted a spirited effort in the second half, but Fossa were not to be denied, and with further points from F Coffey, M O Neill and D O Sullivan, they held out for a thoroughly deserved victory and this result pouts them well back in contention in Div 4.
The switching of Derry O Sullivan to wing forward was a master-stroke by coach James O Shea and his three wise men as O Sullivan had a splendid outing at number12. The inside line of forwards of E O Connell, D O Sullivan and K Clifford were very influential in this game. Overall, this was a very encouraging performance and Fossa certainly were the fitter side. Substitute Mikey Cronin did well when introduced but this was primarily a good team effort with everybody contributing to achieve a very satisfactory result.
Panel: C Myers; M Dennehy, S Malone, K O Sullivan; L Daly, J Cahillane, Dl O Sullivan; C O Keefe, F Coffey(0-1); J Falvey, M O Neill(0-2), D O Sullivan; E O Connell, D O Sullivan(0-5), K Clifford(1-2); Ml Cronin, M O Connell, L Kelly, K Myers, C Davidson, T Cronin

Legion 0-11 Fossa 0-06
Fossa again dissapointed in this drab encounter, despite starting brightly with two points from Kevin Myers, Fossa went into the break 06-03 down. Fossa again started brightly in the second half and reduced the gap to a single point BUT just could not close the gap. In the last ten minutes the half belong to Legion and they went on to stretch thier lead. Fossa will take heart from some bright spell BUT again lacked that penatration up front. Best for Fossa were the O'Sullivan brothers in a good tight defence and Kevin Myers in the forwards was the lone treat.

Fossa 0-07 Spa 2-10
Fossa were truly outclassed in this one sided encounter, second to every ball, the Fossa forwards had a no-show day. Spa started the game at a high tempo and were 4 points ahead before Fossa started to play, Every time Fossa gave away possession they were punished with a quick counter attack from Spa and a score.
Two points from Mick O'Neill and a point apiece from Kenneth Clifford and Fintan Coffey kept Fossa in the race up to half time.
On the resumption Fossa showed signs of a fight back with a fine point by Johnny Falvey BUT they just could not get to grips with a much fitter and hungrier Spa team.
Best for Fossa were Lorcan Daly, Dan Sullivan, James Cahilane and Johhny Falvey.
