Co-League Div. 5:
We reached the final for the first time in many years this year,
having defeated Finuge, Ballymac, Annascaul and Ardfert along
the way we met our near rivals Listry in the final. On the night
Listry were just the better team pipping us on a score line of
4-5 to 1-11. The players were disappointed with themselves as
they knew that they hadn’t done themselves justice. We had
played a very physical and tough semi-final away to Ardfert and
this could have contributed to the defeat.
East Kerry:
We played in Div. 2 of the East Kerry League, we had wins over
Spa B, Scart/ Cordal drew with Currow and were defeated by
Glenflesk, Listry and Gneeveguilla. We had to play four of these
games without Paudie Clifford due to Kennedy Cup (soccer)
commitments. This is something the GAA in the county will have
to look into. We then qualified for the Div. 3 championship,
having disposed of Scart/ Cordal in the quarter final and Currow
in the semi-final we were pitted against Gneeveguilla in the
final in Farranfore on the August bank holiday Monday. In the
first half we played some of the best football seen by a Fossa
team for many a year. We lead 2-13 to 1-1 at the break, in
fairness to Gneeveguilla they came back strong in the 2nd half
but we held on to win on a score line of 3-14 to 4-5. Colm Walsh
accepted the shield amidst great celebrations.
Overall we had a great year at this level; the lads were very
committed and trained very hard. A big thank you to the parents
as we carried no buses to any game this year and this is a great
reflection on the support we received throughout the season.
Keep up the good work.
