U16 Football 2010
Fossa U16's started their East Kerry League in brilliant fashion
beating Currow, Scart- Cordal, Listry and Firies in the Div 2
round Robin games until been beaten by Rathmore at home. In the
semi final vs Gneeveguilla - a game where nobody covered
themselves in glory.... The team, the management, the ref or the
East Kerry Board Na nOg.... After a ban for some players and the
manager - the team regrouped for the county league - losing to
St Pats in the round Robin games and beating Currow, Ballyheigue
and Annascaul. The semi final was a tough encounter where Fossa
had a home venue vs. Annascaul and won by a single goal.... And
so to the final.....Fossa were missing some key players through
holidays and injury.
Playing St Pats in Keel on a beautiful Wednesday evening, finals
are a funny thing...... and have a way of righting wrongs
.....,the team that had disappointed in East Kerry - regrouped
and knuckled down played one of the best hours of football ever
played by a Fossa team. This was the 2nd U16 title in two years
and great credit is due to the commitment show by players - this
victory showed all that is good in the Fossa structure. In the
team that started the final - 6 U14's started on the team and
fitted in like a hand in a glove -credit to Dermot, Willie, Mike
and Padraig for that and the cooperation given... The older
players trained with the minors and were fit as fiddles - thanks
to Seamus and Tommy. This meant the U16s trained as a unit one
night a week and were able to concentrate on skills and how to
play the game. Great credit is due to John McKenna for his
coaching which the players really enjoyed. On the night of the
final Fossa won on an amazing score line of 4-18 to 2-12 - where
Tadgh O'Shea clocked up 1-13 and Daniel Griffin captained the
side.
